Hello everyone welcome to the last blog of this series so here i am going to share my views and information i have on penne   Penne Penne is one of the most famous Italian pasta shapes and is loved across Italy and the world. Penne translates to the word “pen”, and gets its name from its shape – a short cylinder-shaped pasta that has angled edges. The shape was inspired by a quill. Penne’s large diameter and ridges make it ideal for retaining sauces on its entire surface. Penne pairs well with chunky meat or vegetable-based sauces because its ridges can easily capture the sauce. You can also try penne with a dairy based sauce or regular tomato sauce. Penne is also frequently used in baked casserole dishes. WHAT DOES THE WORD ‘PENNE’ MEAN? It’s not difficult to understand that the word ‘penne’ or the singular ‘penna’ means ‘pen’ in English. Humble in its ingredients of cheese and meat or vegetables found in a particular region, and special in that it is often prepared with loved ones for the feast table at Christmastime or for a family celebration. Italian food historian Oretta Zanini De Vita writes in her 2009 book,  Encyclopedia of Pasta , that what was first a dish enjoyed by high society soon become a favourite of farmworkers. “Stuffed pasta first appears in  Italian gastronomy  in the 1500s, especially in the north, in Lombardy at the courts of aristocrats in Milan and Mantua. Over time, certain preparations became popular and trickled down to humbler classes who served them on feast days. Thus, stuffed pastas passed from the Italian court to the Italian regional kitchen.” Ravioli from the 16th century For special occas
